Development of a triple channel detection probe for hydrogen peroxide

The rapid and reliable measurement of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) is imperative for many areas of technology, including pharmaceutical, clinical, food industry and environmental applications. In this work, a novel multifunctional complex, [Ru(bpy)₂(luminol-bpy)](PF₆)₂ (bpy: 2,20'-bipyridine), was designed and synthesized by incorporating a Ru(II) complex with a luminal group. In the presence of horseradish peroxidase (HRP), reaction of [Ru(bpy)₂(luminol-bpy)]²⁺ with H₂O₂ can be monitored by three sensing channels including photoluminescence (PL), chemiluminiscence (CL) and eletrochemiluminiscence (ECL). The quantitative assays for H₂O₂ in aqueous solutions using [Ru(bpy)₂(Luminalbpy)]( PF₆)₂ as a probe were established with PL, ECL and CL signal output modes, respectively.     

Synthesis and crystal structures of Ag and Hg complexes of bis(N-heterocyclic carbenes) on p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene platform

A series of p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene 1,3-diimidazolium salts were successfully prepared by the alkylation of p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene with dibromoalkanes, and sequential substitution reaction with 1-alkylimidazole. Furthermore, coordination reactions of p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene 1,3-diimidazolium salts with silver oxide and mercury acetate gave novel Ag and Hg complexes of bis(N-heterocyclic carbenes) on p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene platform. The single-crystal structures of four p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene 1,3-diimidazolium salts and three metal complexes were successfully determined by X-ray diffraction. An Ag–Ag argentophilic interaction (Ag–Ag bond length is 3.1599(6) Å) is formed between the two Ag–NHC complexes and a dimetallic coordination mode exists in Hg–NHC complexes.     

Folic acid‐polyamine‐β‐cyclodextrin for targeted delivery of scutellarin to cancer cells

The efficient tumor targeting drug carrier was designed by bioconjugation of folic acid to β‐cyclodextrin through a polyamine cationic spacer. The characterization and inclusion complexation behavior of the inclusion complex of hydrophobic drug scutellarin with folic acid‐polyamine‐β‐cyclodextrin were investigated in both solution and solid state by means of phase‐solubility, nuclear magnetic resonance, X‐ray power diffraction, thermal gravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. Besides, the solubilization efficiency and antitumor activity of the inclusion complex were tested by saturated solution and MTT (Thiazole blue) method. Solubility and antitumor activity studies showed higher solubilizing ability and antitumor activity of the inclusion complex in comparison to free scutellarin. The folic acid‐polyamine‐β‐cyclodextrin that is presented may be promising active tumor‐targeting carrier candidates via folate mediation. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Photonic Patterns Printed in Chiral Nematic Mesoporous Resins

Chiral nematic mesoporous phenol‐formaldehyde resins, which were prepared using cellulose nanocrystals as a template, can be used as a substrate to produce latent photonic images. These resins undergo swelling, which changes their reflected color. By writing on the films with chemical inks, the density of methylol groups in the resin changes, subsequently affecting their degree of swelling and, consequently, their color. Writing on the films gives latent images that are revealed only upon swelling of the films. Using inkjet printing, it is possible to make higher resolution photonic patterns both as text and images that can be visualized by swelling and erased by drying. This novel approach to printing photonic patterns in resin films may be applied to anti‐counterfeit tags, signage, and decorative applications.     

Metal-ion Interactions with Sugars: Crystal Structure of Bis(4-dehydro-L-arabinose) Calcium Methanol Bishydrate

The crystal structure of the metal-organic frame Ca(C5H9O5)2·CH3OH·2H2O(1) has been synthesized and characterized.Complex 1 belongs to a tetragonal P43212 space group.In complex 1,the sugar moiety shows a beta-L configuration of pyranose form.The calcium(Ⅱ) is eight-coordinated,binding to four such sugar moieties,via O(1),O(2) of two molecules and O(3),O(4) of the other two,with the 4-hydroxy group being deprotonated.The water and methanol molecules are not coordinated to the calcium ion.     

Synthesis,Crystal Structure,Spectroscopic Characterization,Thermal Stability and Magnetic Properties of a Dinuclear Copper(Ⅱ) Complex

A new copper(Ⅱ) complex [Cu2(MNA)2(2,2‘-bipy)2]·2.5H2 O with methy-5-norbornene-2,3-dicarboxylic acid(MNA) and 2,2’-bipyridine as ligands has been synthesized in the mixed solvents of DMF and water.It crystallizes in monoclinic,space group P 1,with a = 10.4191(11),b = 12.8883(13),c = 16.1114(16) ?,α = 70.8090(10),β = 80.568(2),γ = 77.440(2)o,V = 1984.3(4) ?3,Dc = 1.551 g/cm3,Z = 2,F(000) = 962,the final GOOF = 1.051,R = 0.0431 and w R= 0.0980.The crystal structure shows that the whole molecule consists of two independent dinuclear units,in which two copper ions are bridged by two μ2-η1:η0 3-carboxylate groups of MNA2-.The coordination environment of Cu(Ⅱ) ion is Cu O3N2,giving a distorted square pyramidal geometry.The spectroscopic characterization,thermal stability and magnetic properties of the complex were investigated.     

Synthesis,Crystal Structure,Fluorescence, Thermal Stability and Magnetic Properties of the Dinuclear Manganese(Ⅱ) Complex [Mn_2(L)_2(2,2'-bipy)_2(H_2O)_5]_2·3H_2O

A new dinuclear manganese complex [Mn2(L)2(2,2'-bipy)2(H2O)5]2·3H2O has been synthesized with Mn SO4·H2O, 2,2'-bibenzoic acid(H2L) and 2,2'-bipyridine(2,2'-bipy) in the mixed solvent ethanol and water. It crystallizes in monoclinic, space group P1 with a = 9.9944(10), b = 21.939(2), c = 25.628(3) ?, α = 108.429(3), β = 100.613(4), γ = 102.821(3)o, V = 4997.9(9) ?3, Dc = 1.355 g/cm3, Z = 2, F(000) = 2108, GOOF = 1.074, the R = 0.0626 and w R = 0.1531. The structure of the complex contains two [Mn2(L)2(2,2'-bipy)2] units, ten coordinated H2 O molecules and three uncoordinated H2 O molecules. The fluorescence, thermal stability and magnetic properties of the complex were investigated.     

Hydrothermal Syntheses and Crystal Structures of Two Complexes of Cobalt and Manganese Assembled by 4,4'-Oxydibenzoic Acid

Two new coordination polymers [Co(oba)(mbix)]2n·n H2O(1) and [Mn(Hoba)2(H2O)2]n(2)(H2oba = 4,4'-oxydibenzoic acid, mbix = 1,3-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene) have been successfully synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. Their structures have been determined by elemental analyses, IR spectroscopy, UV and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The intermolecular hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking interactions extend the complexes into a 3D supramolecular structure.     

Synthesis,Crystal Structure and Catalytic Properties of a 2D Cobalt(Ⅱ) Coordination Polymer Based on Mixed Ligands

A new Co(II) metal-organic coordination polymer based on flexible bis(imidazole) and aromatic dicarboxylate co-ligands, namely [Co(bix)(nph)]n(H2nph = 3-nitrophthalic acid, bix = 1,4-bis(imidazole-1-ylmethyl)benzene), has been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, TG, IR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. It crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 with a = 9.3767(14), b = 10.1451(15), c = 12.1488(17), α = 102.6450(10), β = 108.856(2), γ = 98.807(2)°, V = 1035.3(3)3, Z = 2, C22H17 Co N5O6, Mr = 506.34, Dc = 1.624 g/cm3, μ = 0.882 mm-1 and F(000) = 518. In the complex, the nph2- ligands connect neighbouring cobalt atoms to form binuclear [Co(nph)]2 subunits, which are linked by pairs of bix ligands to form a 2D honeycomb-like(6,3) network. In addition, the compound is further extended into a 3D supramolecular architecture by π···π stacking interactions. Moreover, the luminescence and catalytic properties of the complex are investigated.
